A Sample Winter Camp Day
Parents often ask what a typical day at winter camp looks like. While activities change daily, here is an example:
- Welcome and warm-up: Children arrive, greet friends and start with a fun movement song.
- Theme talk: A short discussion about the day's theme — for example, "Winter Animals" or "Christmas Around the World".
- Craft session: Making a related craft, such as a paper penguin or a Christmas star.
- Snack break: Hands washed, healthy snacks shared with friends.
- Active games: Relay races, treasure hunts or musical chairs.
- Music and dance: Learning a carol or a short dance.
- Story time and goodbye: A winter story to end the day calmly.
Benefits Beyond the Holidays
Winter camp is fun, but its benefits last long after January:
- Confidence: Children try new activities and discover new talents.
- Social skills: Mixing with children from different classes and schools builds friendship skills.
- Independence: Following a new routine without parents builds self-reliance.
- Smooth return to school: Children who stay active and engaged during holidays find it easier to settle back into school.
- Less screen time: Holidays often mean more TV and phones — camp keeps children busy in healthier ways.
Preparing Your Child for Camp
If this is your child's first camp, talk about it in advance. Explain that they will play games, make crafts and meet new friends. Visit the centre beforehand if possible. Pack familiar items, and keep goodbyes short and cheerful. Most children settle in quickly once the fun begins!
Families who enjoy winter camp often join our summer camp too, and many children discover a love for art and craft or dance during camp that they continue through the year.
